Inspiring Women: Jessica Klein

Jessica Klein of Oh, I Design never ceases to amaze me. Besides being a mom to adorable Evie, she also runs a design business, has a design blog with a loyal following, manages a wide social media presence, and has added a wellness focus to her brand. Oh, and she also ran a half-marathon this fall. Amidst all of that, I picked her brain on a few creativity and business topics and her answers are below!

1 – Describe your career and life in a nutshell.

Hello! My name is Jessica Klein and I am an interior designer & stylist, lifestyle & travel blogger based in Boston. I’m the wife to a talented landscape architect, a mom to a 17-month-old girl (Evie), and a dog-mom to a rescue Jack Russel Terrier mix.

2 – Tell me about a project that you’ve been involved in that you were particularly excited about.

Oh goodness, too many to name. I think my recent master bedroom project has been a favorite on the design studio side, I absolutely love how it turned out. On the blog side, I am currently collaborating with Follain, my go-to natural skin care shop in Boston, and it’s been so exciting to focus on another topic I’m interested in – wellness & beauty.

3 – How do you stay inspired?

Seeing the end result of an interior design project definitely keeps me inspired on other projects! It makes all the hard and tedious phases of the project all worth it. I also get inspired by what I like to call “research days” which is an excuse to visit different shops in Boston and walk around the city with a chai tea latte in hand.

4 – What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned?

Schedule an in-person meeting or phone call with a client that doesn’t seem happy with deliverables/any part of the process. Emails tend to make things worse in some situations and sometimes we need a few minutes to chat it out and all is well again!

5 – What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

“You have to spend money to make money”. I recently made a big investment in a new website and a refresh in our branding and it’s already brought in one project! Which means, it’s about to pay for itself. I don’t know if that’s the BEST advice I’ve ever been given, but that’s the one that popped up in my head first!
